Declaration of Independence

Encouraged by Jenni Schaefer and her therapist, Thom Rutledge, in her book "Life Without Ed" (which my psychologist recommended that I read, along with "Holy Anorexia" by Rudolph M. Bell) to write my own Declaration of Independence from ED. Based off of the real Declaration of Independence, here is my message to ED:

When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for Allie to dissolve the captivating bonds which have connected her with Ed and to assume a separation and departure to which God has entitled her.
We/ I hold these trusts to be self-evident, that all are given and inherit certain rights by their Creator that none can take away, that among these are Life, Freedom, Redemption, and Joy/Happiness.
Whenever Ed becomes destructive of these or other rights, it is the Right of Allie to abolish It and to institute a newness and Recovery, laying foundation on principles and organizing powers in such forms to positively effect and promote safety, happiness, health and wellbeing. When multiple acts of abuse or usurpations occur, it is Allie's right and duty to throw off Ed, kick his butt, and push him down, and to make Recovery a priority for future security and health.
Suffering, usurpations, injuries, cruelties, and constraints with the objective of destroying Allie have been presented by Ed. He has employed many tactics, including, but not limited to:

  • He has refused certain carbohydrates, sugars, fats, and meats
  • He has refused prior enjoyment foods
  • He has encouraged separation from family, friends, and people
  • He has encouraged lying
  • He has lied, attempted destruction, and brought about unhealthy thoughts and actions
  • He has limited what and how much to eat or not eat
  • He has created feelings of shame, embarrassment, and wrongful pride/"better than"
  • He has placed unrealistic and unhealthy expectations on Allie and in her mind
  • He has exasperated obsessive thoughts and has allowed false truths to take root in Allie's mind
  • Has made Allie feel pressured, burdened, confused, and unconfident
In various stages of this oppression, Allie has pleaded and requested for being set right and for relief. Ed is not fit to rule Allie now nor ever.
Appealing to God, may Allie be absolved from all ties and restrictions of Ed and the wrong connections between them. Their relationship ought to be totally dissolved, and that as a free, independent, capable, and healthy person, Allie has power to make peace, make friends, not life, enjoy food, trust, and to be mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally healthy.
Relying on the firm protection of God, these pledge to help Allie live healthfully and fully in the and out of fortune, honor, and various health states.

If you are willing to support me, whether you read this days, weeks, or months down the road, would you please leave a comment with your name indicating that you are willing to fight ED with me together? Thank you!
